Extra details | I was given this tandem 2 years ago in a terrible state by its second owner Mr Frank Blackbond. He and his wife had used it extensively for touring although it had been built origionally as a racing tandem for a member of the Yorkshire R.C.(unfortunately name unknown). A fire in the cellar at Ingleby Rd (where the frames were built by either Jonny Mapplebeck or Graham Saunders) meant that all the records from the days of Whittaker & Mapplebeck and Pennine Cycles were destroyed. Graham Saunders tells me that as far as he is aware only 6 tandem frame were ever built from 1946 onwards and were always to customers specification. He is almost certain that he built this one in 1963. |
