Frame | 1950 Mercian Super Bi-laminated, frame no.22150 Nervex lugs #614649022 F38 With long tangs. All correct transfers, was refinished by Mercian in original colours. Seat tube 21" centre to top. Has mudguard eyes and rear brake bridge drilled for brake, track ends, no pump pegs, grease nipple on top of bottom bracket, round fork blades. |
Wheels | Dunlop special lightweight chrome 27" rims on 40x 32 Airlite large flange hubs. Rear double-sided fixed with 15 and 19 tooth cogs. 27x1¼" Dunlop sports tyres. |
Chainset | Chater-Lea 6½" fluted cranks with 46t Chater-Lea ring with Coventry ½ x 1/8 chain |
Pedals | Brampton B8 with Binda red straps |
Gears | Single-speed fixed |
Brakes | GB Hiduminium lever on left side of bars and Hiduminium caliper |
Stem/Bars | GB Chrome 531 100mm stem with 7/8" dia alloy Reynolds Binda bars |
Saddle | Brooks B37 |
Extra details | Black pump with band-on pump pegs.This bike could be possibly the oldest Mercian in the USA ridden daily |
The C1950 Mercian Catalogue, page4 shows. Super Bi-laminated frame for £19-19-00. The Frame is for the connoisseur, bi-laminated on all lugs with 3″ extensions under all tubes, built to customers own specification. This bike in 2006 won ‘The Best British Bike’ at LeCirque in Greensboro, I did also show it with sprints and tubs on the Cyclo carriers.
