Holdsworth Sirocco (Whirlwind) - 1952

Frame | 1952 Holdsworth 'Sirocco' (truthfully a 'Whirlwind'! In 1951 this style of lugwork was named 'Sirocco' but in 1952, in their wisdom, Holdsworth renamed it the 'Whirlwind' and in 1953 changed the lugwork of the 'Whirlwind' to the pattern that we are all familiar with, so I hope I will be forgiven by all and sundry for referring to this frame as a 'Sirocco' to differentiate it from later 'Whirlwinds'! Specification as follows:- seat tube 23 1/2", top tube 22 1/2", wheelbase 41", head and seat angles 72 deg. Frame no. 16293 |

Chainset | Stronglight 49D cotterless cranks with 46/36 TA Cyclotouriste chainrings |
Pedals | Chater-Lea 'T-bar' with Christophe toe clips. |
Gears | Campagnolo Gran Sport (mod. extra) rear derailleur, French Cyclo front derailleur, Regina 14-16-18-21-24 freewheel |
Brakes | Le Roi 'Bartali' levers with Lytaloy callipers |
Stem/Bars | Reynolds 'Pellisier' bars on a 4 1/4" GB '531' stem. |
Saddle | Brook B17 Swallow |
Extra details | In March/April 1952 Colin Young took delivery of this frame through Johnny Rankin Cycles, Newcastle upon Tyne, having had it made to measure, paying £42 plus for the complete cycle - a substantial amount of money in those days! |
