Frame | 1953 Gillott Taper Tube model with oversize (1 1/8") top tube; spearpoint lugs; frame size: 24 inches centre to top, with 23 ½" inch top tube, as per Specification A in the 1953 catalogue (Specification B had a 23 inch top tube and was intended for racing or where a more forward seating position was required); Agrati ends, with Simplex gear hanger on rear dropout; braze-ons for gear lever and pump pegs; serial number 53146. Forks: Round Gillott gradual taper, with Gillott's "RJB" twin plate fork crown. |
Wheels | Weinmann 27inch rims on Gnutti small flange hubs. |
Chainset | Williams C34 |
Pedals | Phillips "Credalux" quill. |
Gears | Simplex 5-speed "Juy 51" automatic detensioner model |
Brakes | GB Coureur |
Stem/Bars | Kint Maes bars on Douglas stem. |
Headset | Magistroni |
Saddle | B17 Standard on Titan seat pin |
Extra details | The Taper Tube model was intended for the tall rider and the taper tubes (and, presumably, the oversize top tube) were intended to stiffen up the very large sized frames. However, this is a relatively small TT frame at 24 inches and the steering and ride are superlative. |
