Frame | 23" - Finish Flam. burgundy with dark blue flam. head tube and seat bands, chrome seat and head lugs, chrome crown and 6" chrome on front forks seat and chain stays. Gold double box lining, and lugs. Oval forks, mudguard eyes, pump pegs on cross bar and double gear cable stops on chainstay. |
Wheels | FB small flange hubs 32/40 - 15/17 DB spokes, Conloy Asp 27" HP rims |
Chainset | TA Cyclotouriste 46/36 chainrings, Duprat 6 1/2" hollow cottered 5 pin cranks |
Pedals | TA Cyclotouriste 46/36 chainrings, Duprat 6 1/2" hollow cottered 5 pin cranks |
Gears | Simplex 543 rear mech. Simplex "Competition" front changer |
Brakes | Le Roi "Bartali" levers, GB Hiduminium calipers |
Stem/Bars | 3 ½" fancy lug stem of unknown origin. Reynolds "Pelissier" bars |
Saddle | Brooks B. 17 "Swallow" on a Stronglight seat pin |
Extra details | The "Jewel" was built by Bob Keeling and according to him he didn't make very many. In 1954 the "Jewel" was £1 10s. more than a Magnum Opus - so one would have had to be a very dedicated Carlton fan to justify the price! See images below |
